LEAVE NO TRACE PRINCIPLES
Unscramble the words below to discover the four principles connected with food/cooking.
1) ONKW    ERFOEB    OUY   OG
2) ATSHR   UOYR    RSTHA
3) EB    FRAELCU    TWHI    EFRI
4)EECTPSR    EDLFIIDW

Then during the meeting, read over these principles.
1) Know Before You Go - Find out in advance about the place where you are going to camp.  Are there rules you need to follow? cooking policies? Is water available? Never assume that "everyone knows."
2) Trash Your Trash - Pack it in, pack it out.  Follow campground rules for handling dishwater.  Pack all your trash out unless the campground has trash pickup.  Keep water in the area clean: Don't put soap or food in the lakes and streams.
3) Be Careful With Fire - Cook on a camp stove or gill whenever possible.  It's easier and less messy than cooking over an open fire.  Only build fires in designated fire rings.  Always have someone keep an eye on your fire until it is dead out.  Observe all local and state fire bans.
4) Respect Wildlife - Never feed the animals while camping.  Human food is unhealthy for all animals, and feeding them starts bad habits.  Protect wildlife and your food by keeping food and trash stored so that animals cannot get into them.

Plastic Bottle Minion Planter

This would make a Wonderful Mother's Day Gift!
Suggest Schedule:  You may want to drill the hole and spray paint the bottle and lid before the 1st den meeting for the boys unless you feel they need to learn how to spray paint. 1st Den Meeting: Have them paint the minion on the bottle.  2nd Den Meeting: have them plant the succulent and glue on eyes.

Materials: Hand drill (Not shown in picture), EMPTY clean mayonnaise jar and lid (I did not have an empty one when I took the picture), knife or strong scissors (not shown in picture), yellow spray paint, blue spray paint (not in picture), rubbing alcohol to clean tip of spray paint after using, paper towel, news paper, stick, blue (be sure to get a blue that matches the color of the blue spray paint) & black normal paint, paint brush, black pen, paper plate, E6000 glue(in replace of Elmer's Glue show in the picture), & large goggle eyes, small succulent plant, cactus potting mix, small square piece of window screen Apx. 2x2 (I used the screen samples they put by your front door step as advertisements).
Directions:

1) I waited until the end to do this step but I recommend doing it first.  Drill a 1/4 inch hole in the bottom of the mayonnaise jar. Note: be prepared for this to happen.  Once the drill bit penetrates the bottle, the bottle will being to spin rapidly on the drill bit.

2) With some sturdy scissors or a knife cut off the top part of the mayonnaise jar that contains the threads. Shown by the arrow in the picture, I left the area of the bottle on that curved in slightly.

3) Lay down some newspaper outside over some grass or ground for the mayonnaise jar. Then put some rocks on the corners of the news paper to keep it from blowing in the wind.  Repeat for the lid of the mayonnaise jar so there are two news paper areas.

4) Take a stick and push one end through the middle of one of the news paper areas into the ground so it sticks up.  Then put the mayonnaise jar over the other end.
5) Spray paint it yellow.

6) Take the lid and turn it so the inside faces downward.
7) Spray paint it blue. (You do not need to spray paint the inside of the lid).

8) On the yellow bottle, paint on minion clothes and a smile.
9) After the paint dries, using E6000 glue, glue on the goggle eyes.

10) With the marker write the boys name on the bottom of the jar.

11) Place the 2x2 screen square piece over the water hole in the bottom of the inside of the minion to keep the dirt from coming out over time.

12) Fill bottle with the cactus dirt and then gently and slightly spread the roots the of the plant before placing it inside the dirt.

13) Place the minion inside the lid of the mayonnaise jar to catch the water when watering it.  They recommend that you do not water the plant for one week after replanting.   Here is a sight that gives information on how to repot succulents:
